Elekta – From innovation to patient treatment: Connected particle therapy workflows in practice

Particle therapy continues to advance, creating new opportunities to improve precision and personalize treatments. A key milestone was recently achieved when Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Proton Therapy Center treated its first patient using a Monaco® proton plan, demonstrating the successful clinical adoption of Elekta’s proton planning technology.

Supporting clinical innovation requires more than advanced treatment planning alone. Efficient particle therapy depends on a connected workflow that links planning, oncology information management, and treatment delivery. Elekta, building on more than two decades of experience in particle therapy, brings these elements together through its treatment planning system (TPS) and oncology information system (OIS).

Elekta TPS supports advanced particle therapy planning with capabilities such as proton Monte Carlo dose calculation, robustness evaluation and optimization, LET evaluation, and proton arc planning. These tools help clinicians explore treatment strategies that can improve dose conformity, support organ-at-risk sparing, and address treatment uncertainty.

Complementing this, Elekta OIS helps connect particle therapy workflows across proton and carbon-ion treatment environments from multiple vendors worldwide, supporting coordination within the broader radiation oncology department.

Together, Elekta TPS and OIS provide the foundation for connected particle therapy workflows, enabling centers to translate innovation into routine clinical practice.
