PTCOG64 Deauville. Breaking News and highlights

PTCOG64 Deauville. Breaking News and highlights

Welcome to Western (formerly “Lower”) Normandy to one of the most attended PTCOG annual meeting venues, despite the challenging geopolitical context (1,300 expected participants).

-Take note that a shuttle service between Paris airports and Deauville was made recently available (see congress website). Preregistration with payment required.

Highlights and Social program

-Tuesday June 09, 5:30 PM: welcome reception: musical event with cocktails. Open to registered participants.

-Wednesday June 10, 2:30 PM. Prestige conference by Pr Alain Aspect, 2022 Nobel Price of physics winner. World expert in Quantum Physics. Come all and share this unique but still accessible experience!

-Thursday June 11, 7:00 PM. Networking event: awards ceremony followed by buffet and horse show at the “Clairfontaine” hippodrome (=racecourse). Walking distance from CID Convention Center (Circa 30 minutes by seashore or in town). No transportation provided. Possibilities of taxi driving.  Don’t mix up this place with two other sites for local horse shows: Deauville hippodrome and Pole international du cheval!

-Saturday tour of CYCLHAD facility: spectacular visit of the particle center (proton unit and heavy ion innovative cyclotron). On-site exchanges with representatives of affiliated GANIL physics and biology labs. Snack provided. Booking and prepaid only.

-Companion program: not provided. Wide panel of sightseeing in Deauville/Trouville, and iconic places in lower and upper Normandy. Long range visits to Paris and royal castles on Loire River, possible.  Sport activities close-by (horse riding, beach sulky, golf at” Barriere” and “Amirauté” hotels, sailing…). Please visit “INDEAUVILLE” visitor center, and “RECEVOIR EN NORMANDIE” web sites. Prebooking for all, highly recommended.

-My personal suggestions:

Close to venue (≤ half day tours): Deauville/Trouville (city tour, “Franciscaine” cultural center, beaches and restaurants), Honfleur (medieval port with impressionist museum, start of cruises on Seine River), also: Mont Canisy battery (WWII bunkers and undergrounds), Pont Leveque (typical Normand village), Castle of Boutemon (amazing gardens), Seashore resorts (Houlgate very “Anglo-Normand”, Cabourg waterfront promenade and “Grand Hotel” where stayed the famous novelist Marcel PROUST …).

Distant to venue (day tours):

-WWII June 6, 1944, landings, graveyards, and war museums (OMAHA, UTAH, SWORD, ARROMANCHES…). Access can be limited. Please consult D-Day celebrations agenda.

-Main cities, with cultural heritage: Caen (Abbey to the Men, Abbey to the Ladies, “Memorial for Peace” and war museum), Rouen (cathedral and medieval district), also Bayeux (cathedral and tapestry: restoration in progress: check for access, war museum), Falaise (birth castle of King William the Conqueror, war museum), Le Havre (modern art museum).

Mont Saint Michel: the most iconic of all: 1,300 years of religious and historical background! Possibility of trans-bay trails (with guides only).

Enjoy your stay and bring your beloved ones!
