ECR News | PTCOG 64 dresses ECR!

Are you ready for another supersonic PTCOG? PTCOG-64 is fast approaching and ECR will be on the first line!

Start by taking a look at the agenda, and delve into this article to find out more details about our events!

🕵️ PTCOG-ECR workshop

The first ever PTCOG-ECR workshop will take place on Tuesday 9th June from 8:30am and for a full day. The workshop is the result of the PTCOG-grant we won last year, and will be a full day of interactive, career-focused sessions designed to help ECRs make the most of PTCOG and support their professional development. The agenda is dense, but flexible for people who also plan to attend the Educational program to come and go, as our aim is to complement what PTCOG already offers. The response to the workshop was amazing! We have reached the maximum number of attendees in just a couple of weeks with 150 registrations! We are all so very excited and we cannot wait for it to happen!

🧑‍🏫 PTCOG-ECR plenary

This year’s plenary will cover a topic that researchers already face early in their careers: “From Innovation to Implementation – Mind the Gap”. Our chairs, Elena Fogazzi and Jacinta Yap, will introduce the topic by reflecting on the answers and experiences the ECR community gave in a survey on the topic. The session will then consist of several talks providing perspectives on translation from both the research and the clinical side, and one way of implementing innovation in clinical practice through the role of an innovation physicist, giving interesting insights on how different institutes respond to the challenges of clinical implementation. In the last part of the session, our speakers Michele Kim, Matthew Lowe, and Giorgio Cartechini will take part in a discussion to brainstorm possible solutions to bridge the gap. Feel free to engage as part of the audience and find out how to approach this challenge.

👣 PTCOG-ECR mentor lunches

The lunch events are back with another two editions specifically tailored to the ECR community.

  1. On Wednesday, the mentors will be selected speakers from different PTCOG subcommittees that will tell the participants how to get involved in their work.
  2. On Friday, a traditional mentor lunch will showcase untraditional career paths in proton therapy.

If you are interested in the lunch events and want to find out more about the invited speakers or mentors, drop by our booth in the exhibition hall. At the booth, you can also sign up for the lunches – but be quick, as there are only limited spots available!

👾 PTCOG-ECR social event

Tuesday will be a long day, the ECR workshop, the PTCOG welcome reception…so why not carry on with some fun? Join the ECR Social Event!
You will have to come and see us at the ECR booth for all the info! But keep in mind two things:

  • it will be Tuesday evening, after the welcome reception
  • bring your flip-flops with you, because (if the weather allows it) we will be on the beach!

🏠 PTCOG-ECR booth

The ECR booth will be our den, a safe space for all ECRs (and non-ECRs) to feel welcomed, to meet peers, to engage in discussions, or just to take a break from the conference. It will be a lighthouse, a reference point for ECRs.

And this year, dear ECRs, no need to wander around industry booths to get a good coffee…we will have our own coffee machine! Satisfied with your coffee addiction, you will finally be able to enjoy scouting industry booths for the original purpose they are meant for.

Come to the booth to learn more about the ECR subcommittee and to register for the mentor lunches and for other initiatives such as the “IBA meets ECR” 1-to-1 meetings!
